Wellness Fact: Good dental hygiene is a heart’s best friend!

Findings from a recently released study from the University of California (Berkeley) showed women who regularly see a dentist at least twice a year reduced their chances of a heart attack and stroke by 35%. The study also found that developing gum disease presents the same risks for your heart as high cholesterol and blood pressure. One of the main reasons behind this is the effect of the bacteria that enters the blood stream from gum disease. As the bacteria enters is triggers your immune system to constrict the arteries in the body to swell. These factors dramatically increase chances of having heart problems. Next time you’re in the bathroom take a good look in the mirror at your gum line and get that cleaning scheduled with your dentist!
